Barry Schlesinger joined the Ralph Schlesinger Company in 1981 and became a partner in 1986. Initially, Barry was involved in project and construction management on a number of tenant improvement projects. He helped negotiate the business terms for the final phase of development and purchase of the 175,000 square foot OECO Headquarter Building in Milwaukie, Oregon. In 1992, Barry guided the development and construction of a 137,000 square foot warehouse and distribution facility in the Rivergate Industrial District. In addition to leading the land acquisition and entitlement procurement process for the Marriott City Center Hotel and Alder Street Garage developments, Barry negotiated the deal terms with Marriott as well as the acquisition, construction, and permanent finance packages for the project. With the opening of the Alder Street Garage in 1997, he recognized the opportunity to enter Portland’s parking management market. Star Park was launched and currently is one of the largest parking management companies in the Pacific Northwest. Barry was instrumental in forming an innovative partnership between Star Park and three minority chambers of commerce to seek and win the City of Portland Smart Park contracts. In 2006, he led the acquisition of the Unitus Building, which was purchased from Unitus Credit Union and master leased to Portland State University. In 2009 Barry led the purchase of the site adjacent to the Oregon Convention Center. In 2012, with Mortenson Construction, he won the RFP to develop the Headquarter Hotel. Construction of that project is scheduled to commence in the second quarter of 2017.
Barry is past president of Waverly Children’s Home and was on the board of the Children’s Trust Fund of Oregon. Barry is currently on the board of the Oregon Coast Aquarium. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Washington University in St. Louis.
